General Description
Located in Mendez, Cavite, a neighboring town of Tagaytay City, the Faithful Shepherd's Garden (FSG) is blessed with cool, refreshing, and energizing climate. With so many trees inside and outside the FSG, it's like having oxygen therapy. There's no need for air-conditioners nor electric fans. On sunny days, although the heat of the sun is felt, there's always a crisp and chilly breeze. By 4:00 p.m., the sun begins to set and a cool evening breeze makes wearing a shawl or vest a fashion imperative.
On cloudy or rainy days, the whole place is veiled with a misty layer of fog. It certainly creates a lovely atmosphere, but people who like it warm will need to put on a thick sweater or jacket.
The sky seems closer in this place. On bright and fine days, a dazzling star-studded evening sky starts its magnificent spectacle at about 7:00 p.m. If one is an early riser and dawn-watcher, he or she could get up at 4:00 a.m. as the rooster crows and be enchanted with the mesmerizing moon and the gazillion of stars everywhere -- north, east, south, and west. One could take a meditative walk in the stillness and witness the first rays of the sun superimpose itself on the moon and the stars.
There are generous fruit trees such as jackfruit, guava, santol, bignay, indian mango, and guyabano in the Faithful Shepherd's Garden (FSG). When guavas are in season (June to October), one can pick a perfectly ripe guava fruit from a branch, bite into its yellow-green skin, and savor its sweet taste. Without washing it? Yes. That's because everything's organic at the FSG, including the chickens.
There are banana plants which reproduce and bear bunches of bananas on their own. Lantana flowers abound which attract all sorts of butterflies, including the Monarch species. Birds fly in and out, always chirping and singing happily. On some nights, owls and fireflies visit the Faithful Shepherd's Garden.
