Children's Rosary Learning Journey (CRLJ)
(Family Bonding Time Through Mama Mary)
But Jesus called the children to him, saying,
“Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them,
for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” (Luke 18:16)
DESCRIPTION. It is a day-long family bonding time during which loving and caring adults help children learn
1) about the Holy Rosary, and 2) how to pray it. It is a grand conversation in which the adults listen (most of the time)
so that the children can talk about their spiritual insights or questions.
Conceptualized primarily for children, the Rosary Learning Journey (RLJ) depends on the strong support as well as the
restrained and judicious participation of adult chaperones (family members, close friends, or teachers).
RATIONALE:
1) Primarily, to help deepen and nourish children’s faith experience through the Holy Rosary; and to help develop the
children’s religious and spiritual literacy.
2) Secondly, to create a serene and soothing family bonding experience through the Rosary Learning Journey.
AIMS:
This rosary learning journey is designed so that the children may:
1) be captivated by the ‘stories’ in the four sets of mysteries;
2) value the origin and development of the Holy Rosary;
3) know the parts of a 5-decade rosary and how to use it;
4) appreciate the meaning of the Lord’s Prayer and the Hail Mary;
5) be inspired by the power of the Holy Rosary in the lives of saints and ordinary people;
6) pursue one's life journey empowered and enlightened by the Holy Rosary on a daily basis.
METHOD:
Active learning strategies will be employed such as those inspired by Gardner’s multiple intelligences (1983; 1999). The main rosary prayers will be unpacked so that their meaning could be internalized by the participants. It will include interactive and participant-centered activities which will culminate in praying the Holy Rosary around the Rosary Garden.
TARGET PARTICIPANTS:
1. Catholic children aged 6-12, and teenagers aged 13-18, chaperoned by their parents/guardians.
2. Anyone who wishes a deeper faith experience with Jesus and Mary through the Holy Rosary.
WHY ARE CHAPERONES NEEDED?
1) The Children's Rosary Learning Journey is designed as a family bonding activity.
2) The adult chaperones are full-fledged participants in the Rosary Learning Journey. They are expected to support the
children in their post-journey growth and maturity.
It is strongly recommended that an adult -- a family member, a close friend, or a teacher -- chaperone each child. Ideally,
one adult should chaperone a maximum of only three children. School children must be chaperoned by at least one teacher for every 10 pupils/students.
UNCHAPERONED CHILDREN
If a child cannot be chaperoned for whatever reason, he or she may join the Rosary Learning Journey just the same. However, he or she must submit a waiver signed by his/her parent or guardian. (Drivers, yayas, or bodyguards are not considered as chaperones.)
GROUP SIZE:
Minimum of 20, maximum of 50 children and adults.
